NY Woman Suffered Neurological Pain For Five Months Thanks To ObamaCare. Her Republican Congressman Helped Stop It.

April 24, 2014

ObamaCare is causing pain. For Margaret Figueroa, it’s not just the metaphorical pain in the neck that has been a constant with the law since day one. ObamaCare caused her a physical pain for the last five months because she had not been able to get treatment for her rare neurological disease thanks to the law.

Her old plan covered the treatment for her disease, called Arnold Chiari Malformation and Syringomyelia. But after ObamaCare canceled her plan last year, she was forced to purchase a new one – and her treatment was no longer covered.

House Democrats may try to ignore the pain that ObamaCare is causing, but House Republicans are not. In fact, according to Margaret, it was only after Rep. Michael Grimm intervened that she was able to start receiving her treatment again.

Figueroa’s doctor, who has taken Figueroa back as a patient pro bono, says this is a problem with ObamaCare. “There are a lot of patients falling through the cracks…This is one of those issues with Obamacare,” Dr. Germaine Rowe, her doctor, said.

Margaret’s ObamaCare nightmare is just one story out of millions. What about all those promises Democrats made about patients being able to keep their doctors and their plans under ObamaCare?  How many more patients must suffer due to the law?

From Staten Island Live:

On Wednesday morning Margaret Figueroa, who suffers from a rare neurological disease called Arnold Chiari Malformation and Syringomyelia, was able to see her pain management physician after going five months without treatment.

The reason for her lapse in treatment stems from a new EmblemHealth plan she signed up for in February under the Affordable Care Act. She only obtained the new plan because her old plan was canceled.
